Jeremy Lin and you’re a pretty big ovation. We saw last night in Boston, Jeremy Lin was the first point guard off the bench, played the first half. We all know the story how an undrafted player from Paulo Alto, California took the world by storm when he led the New York Knicks on one of the most unexpected runs in sports history. The publicity was everywhere.
a storyline that was covered from late night talk shows to news broadcasts across the globe. Everyone was talking about Jeremy Lin. But what happened after the bright lights of Lynsanity faded away? Where did the journey of the game’s fastest rising star take him long after the roar of the garden went silent? This is a story of perseverance, fear, and expectations. This is the rest of the story of Jeremy Len.
The first domino to fall in the collapse of Lynsanity came on February 23rd, 2012. For the previous 11 games, Lynn had been at the height of the basketball world, averaging 24 points and nine assists as the new starting point guard of the New York Knicks. The crowd on its feet here at the Air Canada Center. Lynn puts it up. Jeremy Lynn from downtown and the Knicks take the lead.
The team had gone nine and two over this stretch, including a big win over Kobe and the Lakers in the Garden, but now found themselves traveling to South Beach for a matchup with the eventual NBA champion Miami Heat. The Heat had been on a revenge tour all season, motivated by a loss in the previous NBA finals, and the big three was more than aware of the publicity that had been surrounding Jeremy Lynn. He’s done a great job.
I think he’s done a fantastic job, but you know, with great success comes expectation and responsibility and and stuff like that. Not to say that he can’t do it, but you have to think what happens next. Team studio. Oh, the steal by Charmers. He’s been all over. Convers gets it inside. Picked off Lakers.
Oh, the steel as Flynn had it taken out of his hands by Oh, look how cold right and Lynn continues to have difficulties. In what would be his worst performance since earning the starting spot, Lynn would be held to just eight points on one for 11 shooting from the field. A moment that seemed to dim the spotlight on the Knicks magical run. While Lynn would continue to put up respectable numbers, sprinkling in some 20point games following the All-Star break, the Knicks themselves took a turn for the worst, losing six in a row to start the month of March. Head coach Mike De Antony, whose system of pick and roll action
had been a major factor in Jeremy’s success that season, would step down as head coach of the team on March 12th, citing frustrations with the team’s underperformance as his reason for resigning. This led to assistant Mike Woodson being named the new interim coach, a man who had a very different offensive philosophy from Deanton.
Woodson was a firm believer in isolation scoring, limiting the number of pick and roll opportunities available for Lynn per game. A change that was welcomed by Nick’s star Carmelo Anthony, who just so happened to be one of the best ISO scorers the game had ever seen. Anthony for three. Bang. That one goes down and the game is tied.
You see, while Melo had been the Knicks star at the time of Insanity, his absence to start the run had been a big reason for its success. And there has been wide speculation about how he truly felt about Jeremy Lynn’s rise to stardom in his city. It was some weird going on because obviously like we riding a wave.
Super wave. Yeah. And the Linsanity wave is just And mellow out. Remember Melo? He was injured when he when he went on that run. Yeah. Yeah. He go on a run. We went like five, six in a row. But when Melo come back, Jeremy Lynn is the biggest star in the world. The world. He’s the He has literally went from like nobody to the face of the NBA.
It was like Melo came back and Jeremy Lynn was so big. He was bigger than Melo media wise. Yeah. And so it did create a little like this is not real. Like we can’t is this sustainable or not? Yeah, bro. We can’t live in this. But like we should be living in it. But I think like it started to create um like tension in the in our in the way we play. Can Lynsanity continue? I believe so. What you see? I believe so.

What I’ve seen I mean right now he’s playing out of his mind. Like completely out of his mind. He’s he’s unbelievable right now. Um, you know, when I come back, I think I can take some of that off, some of that pressure off of him to have to go out there and do it on a consistent basis.
If Carmemelllo Anthony is on the floor with Jeremy Lynn, who’s taking the last shot in that game? Of course, I want to take the last shot. I mean, let’s be quite frank. I mean, I I’ve been doing it for 9 years already, so I’ve made I’ve made a ton of them. I never knew then. I don’t know now. I’ve never had a conversation about it personally with him.
Um, but the only thing I and I’ve said this and it’s I don’t say it just to like be fake is I’ve never had a conflict with him personally. Um, everything that happened, everything that you know is what I know. I mean, like everything I heard from, you know, when when the Antony came out multiple years later, when Amari came out multiple years later, like in the moment, I didn’t know any of that stuff. I didn’t know what was happening.
On March 24th, Lynn would complain about knee pain following a win against Detroit. And after an MRI, it was revealed that Jeremy had a small tear in his meniscus. an injury that would end his season. In the summer following Lynn’s breakout season, Jeremy was an unrestricted free agent with the option to either sign a deal with the Knicks to return or take a bigger contract elsewhere.
There were still plenty of questions about if Lynn could continue playing at the level he had shown in New York. And when the Houston Rockets laid a four-year, $28 million deal on the table that summer, the Knicks were left with a decision to make. I thought the Nick the Knicks were going to match me. Um, they told me they were going to match me. I just assumed it.
Like, I didn’t understand what was happening. And uh, and I still don’t know to this day exactly what happened. At first, New York made it clear they wanted to bring Jeremy back, saying they would quote match any contract up to $1 billion. However, when the Rockets doubled back with a counter offer of three years $25 million, which included a gut punching $14 million set to be paid out in the third year, Nick’s star Carmelo Anthony would go on record calling the contract ridiculous.
A lot of people try to, you know, kind of jump the gun with with that he’s going to be back no matter what. Um, at the end of the day, he was, you know, a free agent, so he was testing the market. Um, you know, Houston do a big deal out there on the table. So, I really don’t know. I haven’t talked to anybody in the Knicks organization as far as, you know, what’s going to happen.
While New York had been no stranger to overpaying for players in this case, they didn’t find the deal worth it, electing to let Lynn walk despite the surge he had given the franchise just a few months prior. Jeremy Lynn’s career after leaving the Knicks was filled with ups and downs. There were rocky stints in Houston and LA which were filled with Lynn chasing the expectations that followed him postsanity.
By the time he arrived in Charlotte in 2015, Jeremy had begun to come into his own as a player, finishing in the running for sixth man of the year as he provided a much needed spark off the bench for the Hornets. Jeremy Lynn from long range. L Andrews with a solar left open. He competes hard every night and he’s a very serious player. I mean, he’s extra every day. Um, and I think that he’s got another a big jump.
Lyn head up, waits for the perfect timing and throws the look away pass right by the ear of Tristan Thompson. Back at the play. Yes, he’s done it again. Lynn gets bumped. Oh, and he still finds it. Despite an injury riddled season in Brooklyn the following year, Jeremy would actually be given some of the primary scoring responsibility for the Nets, putting up his best numbers as a professional. Landing.
They start shooting threes if they’re not good threes. Lynn, that’s a three. Glenn in his hands making his own moves. Having gone through the last four years, I’m really in a different place where I’m not so concerned what everyone else has to say about me anymore. I’m just really focused on like enjoying the presence of God and the present itself. I just have a lot more fun through each day.
I smile a lot more. when I take things uh some of the things I used to really idolize and cause a lot of stress I’m able to let go of and and kind of just stay on that path of getting better every day. Since the last time I’ve changed so much as a player, um when I first got here, all I could really do was control the ball and play some pick and roll.
And I still had a lot of holes in my game and I still do now, but I feel like I’ve shored up a lot of those weaknesses. Step back for the last few years playing in a backup position. To me, that’s not who I was created to be as a player or that’s not natural. You know, I feel like I I want to be the guy in the front. I want to be the guy leading the charge and and I feel that here.
Lynn was primed to be a focal part of the offense in Brooklyn entering the 2018 season. The Nets would hire head coach Kenny Atkinson, an influence who had been an intricral part of Lynn’s success during the Linsanity run. In many ways, he was the only reason why I was even keeping Brooklyn as one of the potential landing spots. Here we go.
I think for me, I’ve gone through a lot of different things. I’ve I’ve been unexpectedly hurt by certain relationships. And so for me, um, I really trusted Kenny and trust isn’t something that I’m great at these days. You know, we would have dinner together. He always kept up with my games. He would send me texts sometimes saying, “Hey, watched your game last night. This is what I think.” Or whatever.
And so those things meant a lot to me and it showed that he genuinely cared about me and that’s a big reason why um I kept looking at Brooklyn. You know, I just turned 28 and I this is my seventh season but sixth team. So um finally to have some stability is what I wanted out of this year’s free agency. All signs pointed to Jeremy Lynn once again taking a career leap in NYC.
But in the season opener, disaster would strike. The new season is here as we join you tonight from Indianapolis. Opening night in the NBA. Needs help. 12 to shoot. Lynn makes his move. Lynn switching. You got to keep it simple and not hold the pass. Lynn sticks it. Staying outside the circle. Second foul on topics. Lynn. I came down the lane. I shot a layup and I turned. Lynn goes down hard.
You could hear the bang as she hit the floor. It’s like someone bang knees with me midair and I looked at the replay and no one touched me. Oh boy, Jeremy Lynn is down. I couldn’t even straighten my leg. Like my leg was bent and it was stuck in that bent position. I was like, “Just walk off on your own and it’s not that bad or you’ll be fine.” And that clearly wasn’t the case.
Jeremy Lynn’s season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night. The Nets guard suffered a ruptured patella tendon during I think it’s a shock. I think when Gordon Gay goes down, it’s a you’re you’re you’re um you’re right next to it. You feel it. It’s your teammate. My biggest question was kind of like why now? Felt like I was at a place mentally and physically and with my game where I was ready and poised to kind of break out. Pretty sad on the car ride home.
And then once I got home, I was like, “All right, it’s time to turn the page.” Like, I had to take this one year off, but it’ll impact me the rest of my career. I want to thank the guys over at Arena Club for sponsoring this video. This is genuinely one of my favorite sponsors I’ve ever had.

Once healthy, Lynn was traded from the Nets to the rebuilding Atlanta Hawks in 2018, coming off the bench behind rookie point guard Trey Young.
Atlanta would later buy out his contract and Lynn would sign a one-year deal with the second place Toronto Raptors, his long- awaited chance to join a contender. While this was exactly the opportunity that he had hoped for, Lynn struggled in his first several games with the Raptors, shooting a careerlow percentage from three and fighting for minutes in the rotation. Come playoff time, the Raptors would elect to go with Fred Van Vleet as the primary guard off the bench, marking the end of Lynn’s oncourt time in Toronto.
Still, the Raptors were one of the NBA’s most competitive teams in 2019 and led by star Kawhi Leonard would bring Toronto its first NBA title. We the North are now we the champions, the Raptors, the 2019 NBA champs. It was so heavy. Like, dude, you made history. First Asian-American ever to put, you know, to win a championship. There was a weight of like the the what that moment meant.
So, on one hand, it was like, “Wow, let me just soak this in. Like, this has never been done before.” On the other hand though, it sucked because I was dmping. And that’s when I realized those two years of injury, like they were having some real effects on me. the time when I went from the top of the world, literally the top of the world to like I lost my starting position.
Then I started losing playing time and then I lost a lot of fans and then I lost a lot of endorsements and then all of a sudden, you know, like that whole downward and then I and then I finally get, you know, in a great position and then I get injured, you know, like that whole thing like really weighed on me and and and Toronto is when I started to see the cracks in the foundation.
That championship, that’s the last time I ever got a chance to really, you know, be a part of the NBA. After failing to land an NBA deal, Jeremy Lynn signed a one-year contract with the Beijing Ducks on August 27th, 2019. As a basketball icon across Asia, someone who had toured China multiple offseasons, the buzz around the move was massive.
Lynn embraced the chance to start and lead the team, guiding Beijing to its first semi-final appearance since 2015 when former Knicks Stfan Marbury had led the Ducks to a CBA title. Jeremy averaged 22 points and 5.6 assist and earned CBA Allstar honors. Some critics questioned why he didn’t post historic numbers like other foreign stars such as Jimmer Ferdet.
But Lynn’s value showed up in his leadership and two-way command, earning a defensive player of the year nomination and leaguewide respect after absorbing the physicality thrown at him from day one. Lynn overcame the target on his back and proved he could still lead a team. But the biggest benefit of China wasn’t just on the court. It was what the experience did for him mentally.
You know, going in I I I I had such a determined mindset and I and I had such a killer intention, but I was so damaged and I carried so much emotional baggage that even though my intention was to do amazing things, I had such a fearful mindset. And even though, you know, looking on paper, it was like, you know, the season came and went and I was an all-star and there were many things that that that went my way and and uh positive things that happened, but at the end of the day, I still struggled with so much fear this past season. And one of my teammates, he said to me,
you know, I just met you this season, but when I would watch you play uh in during Insanity during New York times, I would only watch through the screen, but even through the screen, I could see this fearlessness in your eyes. But through the first 30 games of the season, I sense so much fear in you.
And it was at that point when I was like, you know what? This stops today. I’m going to wage war on fear. Following his stint in the CBA and a brief run with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA GLeague in 2023, Jeremy Lynn would sign to play professionally in Taiwan. After one season in Gowong, Lynn would join forces with his younger brother, Joseph, who had made a career of his own in Taiwan.
The pair of brothers would lead the new Taipei Kings of the TPBL. An experience that Jeremy has said was one of the most fulfilling of his career. Lynn against sees another opening. That’s Jeremy Lynn. That’s wizardry. Let’s get that rebound. And here comes Jeremy Lynn once again. Over the course of the 2025 season, Jeremy Lynn would leave a lasting legacy in Taiwan, being named first team all league, all defensive first team, and the winner of the TPBL’s MVP award.
In June of that year, Lynn and his brother would put the finishing touches on the season, leading the New Kings to the league championship. Here we go. Jeremy Lynn goes around the entire box defense and one. Jeremy Lynch through the leg. Step back. Uhoh. Jeremy Lynn. That’s what I beat you for. Way down. Oh, Jeremy Lyn says, “Not in my house. Not in game seven, but not today.
” Nearly 6 years after he had won the NBA Finals as an afterthought with the Raptors, Lynn would have the opportunity to end his career on his own terms, being named the Finals MVP in his final professional game. This story is bigger than never giving up on your dreams, bigger than learning from failure. It’s the story of overcoming the most dangerous enemy of all, yourself.
Because we all carry negativity, words people have said or beliefs we’ve built about who we are. And the real value here is the lesson Jeremy learned. You have to face those thoughts head on and decide they don’t get to control you. After years of battling expectations and trying to beat the odds, anxiety and doubt crept into Jeremy’s mindset and spiraled into something that touched every single part of his life.
And it wasn’t until he chose to fight back, waging a war on fear and negativity that he finally broke free. by challenging the false beliefs he’d created, he lifted his mental health and thrived accordingly. And when I think about, you know, what do I want to be known for as a person? Um, I’ve always thought like if I died and and I had a grave, if they just wrote like a man after God’s heart, I think that would be like the ultimate compliment to me as a person or uh the legacy that I would want to have left.
When I think about who is Jeremy Lynn as a basketball player, I I don’t care about being the best or being the first. Really, I just want people to think of me as that was somebody who was willing to go for it, who was willing to chase his dreams and did his best to do things the right way, play the right way, play for my teammates, and and and so I always wanted to be somebody that was known for uh respecting the game, respecting my teammates, respecting the culture of an organization. uh and that would be the legacy that I would want to leave.
Heat. Heat.
