Calvin Ford Says Tank Davis Already Knows the Truth

That reframing shifts how people read the split to fans, leaving Calvin Lands as an emotional thing since Calvin was present for so much of Tank’s ascent, helping mold him, steer him, and build the fighter everyone recognizes today. But by that account, Tank isn’t exiting out of disrespect. He’s making a business move built around legacy improvement and the marquee fights on the table.

Then a much sharper opinion came from the account the boxing massacre, which didn’t view the switch as a negative at all. They argued they couldn’t grasp why fans were claiming that pairing with Benvdas’s father would be Tank’s undoing, pointing out that skill-wise Tank sits among the very best in the sport. While his mentality had always been the question mark and suggesting Joseé Senior would strengthen exactly what Calvin’s softer energy never could, in their view, Calvin leaned too emotional, and that emotion bled into some of Tank’s poor in the-

moment decisions. Harsh as that sounds, their bottom line was blunt. Calvin has carried Tank about as far as he’s able to. According to Shawn Porter, Gervante landed with Joseé Benvdz senior simply because he feels comfortable there. a take that drains a lot of the drama out of it.

Porter’s point is that a fighter doesn’t always change trainers over bad blood or disrespect. Sometimes he just needs a new environment, a different voice, and someone who makes him feel dialed in. For Tank, comfort carries real weight because he’s stepping into a serious phase of his run. If Jose Senior supplies the energy, the structure, and the confidence he needs right now, that alone explains the move.

It doesn’t erase what Calvin gave him. It just suggests Tank believes Jose fits better for where he’s trying to go. >> I feel like he’s comfortable with with Jose and telling y’all what I know. Sometimes that’s all it takes. Whatever is going to get this light flip up, turned on, and keep it on. Sometimes it’s comfort.

I just need somebody that that’s that I’m feel I feel comfortable with that I can be myself with and that you know when I’m ready to move, they moving. when when they ready to move, I’m moving. I feel like he thinks he has that with Jose. >> Anthony Brena and Shawn Ziddle, though read the whole thing through a different lens, and they still believed Calvin Ford was good for Gervante.

From where they stood, Calvin wasn’t some throwaway trainer Tank was leaving in the rear view. He was part of the bedrock. He’d walked Tank through crucial years, understood his style inside and out, and knew how to reach him in ways not every coach could manage. So even if Tank feels at home with Joseé Benvdz senior right now, that doesn’t automatically make Calvin the problem.

That’s what gave their take more balance. They understood why Tank might crave a new setting or a fresh voice. But they also handed Calvin his due for the work already done. To them, Calvin helped build the very fighter people admire today. And that can’t simply be wiped away because Tank is turning a page. Jose and Tank.

>> It’s their business, but I I just don’t I’m not I don’t add up the beef with him and Calvin Ford really. I think I guess Calvin may have done an interview or two that Jervante didn’t like, but it’s like >> that made no sense, man. >> Look, I I remember when I saw Truck Simpson spar before before Truck tailed off when when he had promise, no offense, Truck, you know, much love to you.

But when Truck was 18, 19 years old and it was like, “Oh, this kid, he has talent. He has real upside.” He threw his punches in the same way Jervante Davis did. He had a lot of the same kind of rhythm that Javvante did. And and that’s what made me go, Calvin is a good trainer. Even though Calvin didn’t move the needle for Jan Ingram over the weekend, Jan Ingram lost to Devin Cushing.

It didn’t uh it didn’t look like it didn’t look like Calvin had a big impact on him winning. He wound up losing to Devin Cushing. Devin Kushin bigger guy anyways. Um but when I saw Truck do that, I go, “Okay, so Calvin has an imprint. he has. Then Fannon weighed in with his own theory on the true reason Gervante walked away from Calvin Ford and his angle stood apart from everyone else’s.

>> One of the reasons that he’s no longer with Coach Kenny and Coach Calvin. And I think it’s an important thing to say because um it’s not all on Coach Calvin. It’s not all on Coach Kenny and it’s not all on Gervante Davis. Uh I have been paying attention to that camp for a while. I know people in that camp.

I know people around that camp and I can tell you without a doubt that the major issue with Jervante Davis and that particular camp was the fact that there’s so many paid snitches in his camp. It was replete with family members and other people who whenever they got a piece of information about Gervante Davis would try to go out and give the and give that information to somebody else in exchange for money.

According to for Fannon, this move might have little to do with training, comfort, or legacy at all. He hinted that there were simply too many people running their mouths, too many leaks, and too many snitches circling the situation. That reframes how fans should read Tank’s decision. Because once a fighter senses that too much information is slipping out of his camp, changing environments stops being a pure boxing call and turns into a matter of trust.

>> Issue. Gervante is looking up at the internet, seeing what’s being said about him, hearing this information coming out about himself and saying, “Man, where is this coming from?” originally, and this was a couple years ago, I remember when uh Jervante started getting upset with it and he started blocking people and getting mad about stuff and he started telling Kenny and Calvin, you know, that basically not to be announcing things, not to say things about who he’s going to fight next or what he’s going to do

next because Gervante started getting irritated about that. I also know that that that Calvin Ford stopped talking to the media for a long period of time. Kenny Ellis stopped talking to the media about Gervante in that way because they were appeasing Gervante and Gervante’s uh desire to have that information kept in house.

Right? So to the extent that they were having conversations that Gervante Davis didn’t want to have, they had nipped that in the bud several years ago. However, what happened is you have family members and other members in the gym that have connections with people that that have Twitter pages, connections with people that have YouTube pages, and they continued, the people with the Twitter pages and the YouTube pages continued to pay these people money for inside information about Gervante.

And he got very distrustful. For Tank, privacy carries real weight. He’s juggling major fight negotiations, contract chatter, coaching changes, and pressure coming from every direction. So, if he felt the old arrangement had too many voices speaking on his personal business, then walking away from Calvin Ford’s circle may have been his way of tightening down exactly who gets to be close control.

The problem with that with Gervante is when you have spies around him in his family, in the gyms in Baltimore, you have people that leak information that are trying to harm him, right? Because people may be saying, “Man, where is Jervante right now?” Oh, I can find out where Jervante Davis is. Get on the phone, call our boy.

Is he in Baltimore? Is he Nah, man. He’s not in Baltimore. He’s still over there and he’s still in Florida. I heard last time I checked, you know, he was at the gym. You know, I got I got I got a find me. I got him on my Find me app. I can tell you where he is. And then all of a sudden, you got girls setting him up.
