Michael Jackson en Wembley 1988: el show más legendario del Bad Tour!

In June 2012, the Bap Tour show in London at Wembley Stadium was released on DVD for the first time, the legendary performance of July 16, 1988, which was attended by 72,000 people, including Princess Diana and Prince Charles.  Baur’s Wembley concerts are the equivalent of Virus in 1965. But make no mistake, Michael Jackson’s performance here overshadows even his most talented predecessors.

Unfortunately, despite extensive research through the King of Pop’s archives, Michael Jackson’s estate was unable to locate the original master tapes of the Wembley shows.  What they found was a personal BHS cassette copy of the concert that belongs to Michael Jackson’s personal collection .

The concert was restored by a team that also processed and recovered NASA images.  The result isn’t a perfect high-definition image, although the sound quality is significantly improved, but at least you can enjoy a great experience, like reliving one of the King of Pop’s best concerts. Watching the DVD is like being transported back in time.

The London shows came in the middle of the second leg of the tour.  The so- called Michaelmania was spreading throughout Europe, and in Vienna, Austria, the media reported that more than 130 people fainted during the concert.  The moment he arrived in London, the excitement reached a level never seen before.

All seven concerts at Wembley Stadium were completely sold out, breaking a record previously held only by Madonna.  Watching the July 16th concert on DVD, you can still feel that magical energy and excitement in the stadium when Michael Jackson comes on stage and everything around him is filled with smoke, then he starts with the first song of the concert, West with Something, and the crowd explodes.

This [music] is the Michael Jackson that everyone knows, and even more so his fans. However, part of what makes the performance so enjoyable and spontaneous, we can also observe the stage design, the costumes, the lighting, a dynamic band, while Michael is accompanied in many of the choreographed numbers by a talented group of dancers, including B Smith.

The minimalist approach allows Michael Jackson’s talent as a dancer, singer, and performer to shine through.  Michael Jackson sings live for most of the show and improvises to brilliant effect in certain parts, such as at the end of Albyer, where he begins a great improvisation like a gospel preacher possessed by the spirit.

It also calls and responds with its singers and the audience.  “Can you feel it?” he exclaims, dripping with sweat. The music pulsing through him begins to tap his foot rhythmically before he moves on to the next number. Other highlights abound. The introduction of “Smooth Criminal” in a smoky silhouette paves the way for fabulous and captivating artistry in choreography.

Billy Jin’s drumming allows Michael to improvise with the rhythm, spin, kick, touch himself, and slide all over the stage. Part of what makes Michael Jackson so compelling as an artist is how his body is constantly in motion and totally in sync with the music. For the entire show, he becomes, as he says, the medium through which the music flows.

One of the most enjoyable moments, in fact, comes at the end when Michael playfully introduces his singers, guitarists, and band. This is where we get a glimpse of his mood and joy at being part of a creative collaboration. He also allows a group of children to be on stage with him, who sincerely try to imitate their idol’s dancing.

The show ends with a stunning performance of “Man in the Mirror.” In short,  Michael Jackson performed a total of seven concerts in London for an estimated 500,000 people. Demand for tickets was so high that it was estimated Michael could have performed at least 10  sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium if he’d wanted.

Of course, that’s if Michael had wanted it that way. Everyone wanted to witness the magic Michael Jackson created on stage. If you haven’t seen the concert yet, this is your chance. Go to my website, www.moonwalker.tv, and download the concert in high quality, available for your computer and to all subscribers of this channel.

And that’s not all, because I’m going to share a couple more interesting facts about this famous concert, the Bap Tour at Wembley. Princess Diana was in the audience, but Michael Jackson went ahead and sang his hit “Dirty Diana,” which is about a woman of low morals. The 27-year-old Princess Diana simply smiled.

Everyone expected Michael to remove the song from his setlist because of the princess’s presence on Saturday night. But  A source close to the singer said he felt fans would be disappointed. On the other hand, Princess Diana, a pop music fan, and Prince Charles met Michael Jackson backstage before his third sold-out show. “I was really excited to meet the royal couple,” Michael said.

I am so very happy that they came to help me.  Princess Diana was simply wonderful.  Besides that, she mentioned that the song Dirty Diana was one of her favorites.  On the other hand, Prince Charles, who prefers classical music and opera, asked Michael how he learned to dance tamban so well and joked, “Could you teach me to dance?”  Everyone started laughing.

Michael Jackson earned approximately $ 26.6 million from his 13 concerts on the British tour, that is, apart from Wembley.  And of that he donated $240,000 to a program organized by Prince Charles to create jobs for young people from the outskirts and also donated $16,000 to a children’s hospital.

The singer also gave the royal couple four black jackets with the word Bat on them, the name of his number one album.  The gift was for them and their sons, William, 6, and Harry, 3.  And something curious also happened on the tour, as he received a gift from Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

Backstage at the Bap Tour at Wembley Stadium, Michael received a gift from the Walt Disney characters.  A pair of ice skates with his name engraved on them.  The Walt Disney characters were photographed by Michael’s personal photographer on July 22, 1988, in a promotion for the Disney on Ice tour that came to London at that time.

It’s a real shame that, having such a great concert as the Baptour at Wembley, Michael Jackson’s Steadicam , they didn’t bother to work on this concert to improve the quality, since the Baptour was one of Michael Jackson’s best eras and I’m sure many of you would love to see this concert in HD because I know it can be done.

So, for those who haven’t seen the Bat 25th Anniversary documentary, there we can see a performance by Michael where the quality is simply spectacular.  Now, can you imagine watching the entire concert in that quality?  I really don’t know what the state is waiting for to do something, since it has so much Michael Jackson content, so many concerts, so many performances and so much music.

Let’s hope that one day the State will really get its act together and release new Michael Jackson content, since now everything [music] depends solely on them.  Before, Michael was the one who decided, but now that he’s no longer with us, it’s quite difficult for that to happen.  So let’s hope that some concerts leak someday, but in excellent quality, even if it’s another Dangerous Tour, but in HD, or even a History Tour or a Victory Tour.

I’d be happy with any tour, to be honest .  And well, that brings us to the final part of today’s video.
